Belgium is a federal state consisting of three different regions and three different communities based on four different language areas. The country is 30,689 km2 large and the different regions are Wallonia which has an area of 16,901 km2, Flanders which has an area of 13,625 km2 and Brussels which is the capital has an area of 162.4 km2.

In Wallonia, French community dominates and there they speak French. In Wallonia, there is also a German-speaking community. In Flanders we find the Flemish community that speaks Dutch. The Brussels region is bilingual and is dominated by Flemish and French communities.

The country borders the countries of the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, and France. In the northwest there is also a coast bordering the North Sea. Belgium is mainly a plain country, which means that the country is flat and has open landscapes. The central parts of Belgium are considered a plateau country. In the northwest, the landscape changes to fertile marshland, which means that the soil is regularly exposed to tides and makes them fertile. The closer we get to the coast, the more the land turns into dunes. In the southeaster part of Belgium, the landscape rises into the forested mountains of the Ardennes.

Signal de Botrange is the highest point in Belgium and it stretches 694 meters above sea level. There are also other high mountains such as Kemmelberg and which are 159 meters high. Koppenberg is another mountain that is 77 meters high. In these mountains there are often cycling competitions.

The largest rivers in Belgium are the Schelde and the Meuse. Both are navigable routes and important transport routes for the country. The rivers also connect all the major cities in Belgium.

Belgium has a mild temperate climate, which means that they have four different seasons. Since the country borders a coast, this also creates a rainy coastal climate in the country. During a year, it can rain 600–1000 mm a year. Belgium's winters are often mild and the temperatures in summer are often very pleasant. In summer, however, the temperature can rise above 30º C. At high temperatures, many people in Belgium travel to the beaches for sunbathing and swimming. But they are also always ready with an umbrella because you never know when it will start raining in Belgium
